Origami Jumping Frog

1. Start with your paper colored side down, white side facing you, in a square orientation.
**Terminology: Start with colored side down (standard starting position)**

2. Fold the paper in half vertically, bringing the left edge to meet the right edge. Crease and unfold.
**Terminology: Valley fold in half vertically, then unfold (creates vertical centerline)**

3. Fold the paper in half horizontally, bringing the bottom edge to meet the top edge. Crease and unfold.
**Terminology: Valley fold in half horizontally, then unfold (creates horizontal centerline)**

4. Fold the top left corner down to meet the center point where the creases intersect. Crease and unfold.
**Terminology: Valley fold corner to center, then unfold (creates diagonal crease)**

5. Fold the top right corner down to meet the center point. Crease and unfold.
**Terminology: Valley fold corner to center, then unfold (creates diagonal crease pattern)**

6. Using the creases you just made, push the top edge down and inward, collapsing the sides to form a triangle on top of a rectangle.
**Terminology: Squash fold or waterbomb base collapse (uses existing creases to create 3D form)**

7. Take the right corner of the triangle and fold it up to meet the top point of the triangle.
**Terminology: Valley fold corner to point (creates front leg)**

8. Repeat step 7 with the left corner of the triangle.
**Terminology: Valley fold corner to point (creates symmetrical front leg)**

9. Take the right edge of the rectangle below and fold it to the vertical centerline.
**Terminology: Valley fold edge to centerline**

10. Repeat step 9 with the left edge of the rectangle.
**Terminology: Valley fold edge to centerline (narrows the body)**

11. Take the bottom right corner and fold it outward at an angle to create the back leg. The fold should start where the rectangle meets the triangle above.
**Terminology: Valley fold corner outward at angle (creates back leg)**

12. Repeat step 11 with the bottom left corner to create the other back leg.
**Terminology: Valley fold corner outward at angle (creates symmetrical back leg)**

13. Fold the bottom edge up to meet the bottom of the triangle section (where the legs connect).
**Terminology: Valley fold edge up (creates first part of spring mechanism)**

14. Fold the same section back down in half, creating a pleat or accordion fold.
**Terminology: Mountain fold back down (creates pleat fold for jumping mechanism)**

15. Turn the frog over to see the finished side.
**Terminology: Turn over to reveal finished model**

16. To make the frog jump, press down on the back folded section and quickly release!
**Terminology: (Instructions for use - the pleat acts as a spring)**
